So Who's The Best?

So Who's The Best?
Classico Contra Moderno
by: Rachele Danica Colon

Music of Old and New

Who does not know Hale, Cueshe, South Border, U-Turn, M.Y.M.P. and a whole lot more of Filipino bands? Eh bien, they are famous these days, and people go 'loko' with their concerts. And I must admit I love these bands. But talking about the sense of their songs, well that's a question.

Return to the times of Beegees, The Beatles, Carpenters, David Pomeranz and a bunch of singers contemporary to them. Aren't their songs the one's considered classics? The songs whose elegance and magnificence remains eternal? Who didn't appreciate the romantic sensation brought to us by Especially for You, Ocean Deep and Love Moves in Mysterious ways; which is gung by M.Y.M.P? Aren't these songs revivals and are originally sung by those singers in the late 70's (In other words, the Classical Age of Music)? We can't deny the fact that classical songs are far better than today. I'm not saying that the kind of music we have today is that of very low standard, well, for some maybe. But aren't we suppose to be improving the quality of our music instead of degrading it?

The Movies of Past and Present

Who haven't heard of the movie Sound of Music? or Mary Poppins? (Well, if you don't, you better start studying general knowledge). But to those who had watched these films or heard feedbacks, aren't they all compliments? Aren't these fabulous, enchanting and fun? These are but two of those millions of movies which we consider timeless. And take note, they are all classical.

While modern movies are, should we say sometimes a little bit humiliating. The scandalous and obscene scenes which are always the cause of the increase in crime rate (Hey, they trigger or should we say, arouse the erotic imaginations of men in general. Admit it!) Although there are movies which are rated B or A by the MTRCB, but aren't they few compared to the K,M,N...rating of movies?

Aren't you aware that the standard of our movies are now slowly but surely degrading? (And another score for the classics).

*************

When we talk of technology, what can you say of the modern age? (Eh bien, no doubt, modern age rules!) Technology of today are fastly improving. It's just like imagining that some time in the future (maybe in 10 years), we'll be seeing flying saucers, I mean cars. And with these inventions, Science and Mathematics are also improving. We had now discovered new results that contradicts the beliefs or some established theories of the past. It's beyond compare to those of classicals.

But what about the values? Hey, there's no denying the fact that along with the improvement of science is the demerit of our values. What can you say of the youth today? Like, just take a look at the way they dress. It seems that they lack fabrics, duh, with the improvement of technology. Why? In the classical period, you can see women weaving long and bulky gowns and to consider the kind of fabric factories they had during their times.
I'm not saying that technology is wicked. It's certainly depends on the way people use it. Technology is made for the people and for the improvement of life, not for it's destruction and nature's!Aren't you even aware of the effects of the misuse of technology will aslo affect Mother Earth? The misuse of air, land and water, aren't these the ones we call pollution? Aren't you also aware of the effects of pollution to us? Take a note of the ability or capacity of students to learn, didn't you notice that most of us slow-learners compared to the people in the past?

Music, movies and even in values, we can clearly see the contrasts of the classical and modern age. Let's just admit it that the modern age is at lost. When we should have been better, we only show that we are far worst than those of the past. Yet, there's hope. But then, it all goes back to the kind of citizens living in this world.
Now the question still remains...who's the best?

Ever since I knew you so well, I really got a crush on you. It started when we were still in grade 4 and lasted when we were in 2nd year. Actually, I admit that you’re my 1st love. Honestly, for me, you’re the most handsome guy living hereon Earth! Even more handsome than my boyfriend. I know that this might lead me to fall in love with you but I know that I should control it. You know na! Hope we can still be friends ‘till the end of time.

Hi! I had the chance to write you this short message. I grabbed this opportunity right away for I can’t get near you now because I am too ashamed of what I had texted you during this weekend. I was so grateful that you didn’t put any malice on the way I stare. Hey! I like your eyes! And one more thing, I really like your personality and you!

LIDEANS Speak

Compiled by: Christian Colibao, Jayril Dumagsa, and Mary Grace Nepomuceno

With the different problems that beset our country and our community, students have taken part in sharing thier own sentiments and concern about the issues that affect them. The LIDEANS selected three issues and interviewed the students for thier opinion.

1. Separation of elementary and high school department in school-wide activities.

Comments:

"No, because some high school activities are interesting to the
elementary department and we will not be able to participate if that
happens."

-Dhn Gry Fatima Leopoldo - Gr6 Maalalahanin

" I agree. The high school students have different capabilities and standards compared to the grade school pupils. The programs become too long just to accomodate the presentations from preschool to fourth year"

-Chynna Victoria Labastilla - 4th year Mapagkumbaba

"I agree so we could really test the students' leadership capabilities and the SSG officers will be more usefull in that time. But somehow, it depends on the kind of activities being conducted."

-Manilyn Sapilan, 1st year Mapaglingkod

Question: What do you think is the reason why students do not accept responsibilities nowadays?

“Because there is the presence of fear of responsibilities and also some students are afraid of failures.”

Kristy Cotiangco, 1-Mapaglingkod

“Due to lack of confidence. Also they are just thinking that it is such a tiring job or shall I say, “lazy”.

Sheila Fe Casera, 3-Mapagkawanggawa
